The assistance levels vary from community to community, but is typically non-medical, such as food service with planned daily meals and social activities. There are staffs that are available 24 hours a day, which offer the resident safety, assistance with medication and housekeeping.
The design of communities and the units themselves do vary, but most will offer a limited kitchen and one or two bedroom units. It is important to understand that when considering this type of housing that you and your family must carefully access the specific needs (medical & social) with the staff of the prospective community in complete detail in order to determine the best fit possible. There are some communities that offer separate Alzheimer care units for “early-stage” residents.
