Senior Retirement Communities
Also known as Age Restricted Communities, Congregate Care Communities and Independent-Living Communities; this type of housing can be found throughout the country and will range in design from townhouse style units to garden style units in low to medium rise buildings. These communities are most often "Age Restricted" and fall into two distinct categories.
The first is called 55 and Older Housing wherein 80% of the units are occupied by at least one person 55 years of age or older and no one under the age of 18 may reside. The second is called Senior Housing wherein all of the resident must be over the age of 62.
Typically these communities offer various amenities similar to those found in the Active Adult Communities with fitness centers, golf and tennis to name just a few. This type of housing choice can be purchased or rented, depending on the community. This is one of the fastest growing age groups in the United States and developers are quickly moving into this market with new communities throughout the country and worldwide.
